Dr. Fusco is an Associate Professor of Rehabilitation at MUSC and a board-certified specialist in Physical Medicine Rehabilitation and Brain Injury Medicine (ABPMR, 2013 and 2014). She completed her residency at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and her brain injury fellowship at NYU Langone Health and Rusk Rehabilitation Hospital, where she spent over a decade on faculty delivering care across CARF-accredited acute inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient brain injury, stroke, concussion, and autoimmune encephalopathy programs.
Her clinical expertise centers on spasticity management - including neurotoxin injections and intrathecal baclofen pump management and troubleshooting - and her practice spans a broad range of conditions including TBI, stroke, SCI, MS, Parkinson's, PLS, cerebral palsy, and childhood-onset disabilities. She has served as Medical Director of the TBI-certified unit at Queens Nassau Rehabilitation Center since 2015, and has been a principal and co-investigator in multicenter trials involving neurotoxins, stem cells, and TBI agitation management.
A dedicated educator and mentor, she has been honored with the Resident Teacher of the Year award at Rusk Rehabilitation in 2017, 2022, and 2023, and has served as an ABPMR oral board examiner for five years. Her contributions to the field were recognized with the 2022 Marie Ivancich Memorial Award from the Brain Injury Association of New York State.
A native of the New York area, she relocated to Charleston to be closer to family - a long-held goal - and joins MUSC at an exciting time of growth for the PMR program. She looks forward to expanding the rehabilitation footprint across South Carolina and bringing her expertise in complex neurological rehabilitation to the MUSC community.
