843-792-1414Dr. Neena Champaigne is a medical geneticist with over 20 years of experience in clinical and biochemical genetics. She cares for children and adults with suspected or known genetic and metabolic conditions. She has particular expertise in inborn errors of metabolism, newborn screening, and genetic conditions for which targeted treatments may be available.
Dr. Champaigne believes that genetics care is about more than identifying a diagnosis. She works closely with patients and families to explain what a diagnosis means, develop a practical plan for treatment and monitoring, and coordinate care with the patient's broader medical team. She is especially committed to helping families navigate complex or rare conditions over time and to connecting eligible patients with emerging therapies and clinical trials.
At MUSC, Dr. Champaigne serves as Clinical Professor and Division Chief of Medical Genetics and Genomics in the Department of Pediatrics. She leads the expansion of clinical genetics services and provides short- and long-term follow-up for the South Carolina Newborn Screening Program. She also serves as Medical Director of MUSC's Master of Science in Genetic Counseling program and is passionate about educating genetic counseling students, medical students, residents, fellows, and other health care professionals.
Dr. Champaigne has cared for patients in South Carolina since 2008. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Molecular Genetics from the University of Rochester in 1994 and her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 1999. She completed her General Pediatrics residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in 2002 and her Medical Genetics residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in 2006.
