Joseph Asaro, MD

Joseph Asaro, MD, FACS, is a board-certified general surgeon with a distinguished career focused on advanced surgical, laparoscopic, and robotic procedures. Dr. Asaro completed his general surgery residency at the University at Buffalo, where he served as chief resident and was recognized for his leadership and clinical excellence. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from Ross University School of Medicine, graduating with highest honors, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Med from the University of South Florida. Over the course of his surgical career, Dr. Asaro has served in multiple leadership positions, including wound care director, chief of surgery, and chief of staff. He has practiced in both hospital and outpatient settings, building a reputation for technical precision, collaborative leadership, and dedication to patient-centered care. His research has been presented at national conferences, including the Society of Surgical Oncology's Annual Cancer Symposium, with published work on DVT/PE prophylaxis and HIV treatment. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association, and the South Carolina Medical Association. Dr. Asaro has been honored with multiple recognitions for his skill and compassion, including America's Top Surgeons (2017), the Patients' Choice Award (2014-2016), and the Compassionate Doctor Award (2015). In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Asaro is fluent in Spanish and Italian, which enhances his ability to provide care to diverse patient communities. Outside of medicine, he enjoys skiing, snorkeling, basketball, football, music, cooking, boating, and fishing.
