Carlton Gregory Cauthen, M.D. Critical Care Medicine, Sleep Medicine, Pulmonology in Elgin, SC

Gregory Cauthen, M.D., is a pulmonologist and critical care physician with nearly 20 years of experience caring for patients with respiratory and sleep disorders. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina Honors College in Columbia and his medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Louisiana Health Sciences Center/Medical Center Louisiana New Orleans, followed by a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Dr. Cauthen specializes in the diagnosis and management of respiratory conditions, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pulmonary nodules, lung cancer and obstructive sleep apnea. He has a special interest in advanced lung diseases, including interstitial lung disease, bronchiectasis, pulmonary fibrosis and pulmonary arterial hypertension.

He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine and Sleep Medicine. Dr. Cauthen serves as Sleep Medicine Director for the Midlands Division of MUSC Health and has held several leadership positions throughout his career, including chief medical officer of Intermedical Hospital/LTAC and medical director roles for the intensive care unit and pulmonary services at MUSC Health Columbia Medical Center Downtown.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Cauthen enjoys coaching varsity football at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School and is active in Scouting. He also enjoys golf, scuba diving, and spending time with his family.
