Sylvia Kim, M.D.

Sylvia S. Kim, MD is a board-certified, specialty-trained Colorectal surgeon in Columbia, SC. Her clinical interests focus primarily on benign anorectal disorders. Dr. Kim specializes in fecal incontinence treatment options, and she has served as a design analyst and clinical instructor for sacral neuromodulation therapy systems.

Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Kim received a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University. She went on to earn her medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. She completed her general surgery residency at the State University of New York in Brooklyn, New York followed by fellowship training in colon and rectal surgery at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Jersey. After fellowship, she served as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at SUNY Downstate, earning the Golden Apple Teaching Award for medical student education. Dr. Kim has been practicing in South Carolina for the past 14 years and for several years has received "Top Doctor" recognition from the local Columbia community. She spends her free time with family, friends, and books.
