Steliyana Stoyanova Bakalova-Georgieva, MD
Hospital Medicine, Internal Medicine

Dr. Bakalova-Georgieva is an Internal Medicine Hospitalist at MUSC Health. Her clinical interests include a variety of chronic medical conditions encountered in the hospital setting in decompensated state.
As she reflects on her 25 years of experience as a physician, what stands out is that she continues to enjoy the challenge of treating the patient as a whole. Internal medicine allows her to use her training and experience to treat every body system and put together the puzzle needed to create a successful treatment plan. Her profession also allows her to get to know her patients well in a short amount of time to ensure a seamless transition of care and ensure they will be successful in the outpatient setting post-discharge. She can take into account patients' social situations and work with the patient to create a plan to best fit their needs.
She attended the Medical University of Sofia in Sofia, Bulgaria and completed her Internal Medicine residency program at St. John's Episcopal Hospital in New York. In her free time, she enjoys exploring the Charleston outdoors, gardening, and spending time with her husband and two kids.
