Jeffrey Winterfield, M.D., is Professor of Medicine, the Hank and Laurel Greer Chair in Cardiac Electrophysiology, Chief of Cardiac Electrophysiology, and System Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology at MUSC. He was recruited to MUSC in 2016 to develop the ventricular arrhythmia program, which has grown to one of the largest in the United States. He became chief of cardiac electrophysiology in 2017 and, in 2026, was promoted to system-level director with responsibility for developing electrophysiology programs across the MUSC Health network. Dr. Winterfield cares for adults with the full spectrum of heart rhythm disorders with particular emphasis on complex arrhythmias and catheter ablation of VT, PVCs, and atrial fibrillation/flutters. He is nationally and internationally recognized for catheter ablation of complex ventricular arrhythmias, including epicardial ablation, and has a particular interest in ventricular tachycardia in patients with ischemic and non-ischemic cardiomyopathies. He received his undergraduate degree with honors from Amherst College and his medical degree with honors from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and fellowships in cardiovascular medicine and clinical cardiac electrophysiology at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Before joining MUSC, he served on the heart rhythm faculty at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago, where he published extensively, led clinical trials in complex rhythm management, and taught at national and international meetings. Dr. Winterfield partners closely with patients and referring clinicians to diagnose the cause of arrhythmias and tailor safe, effective, and durable treatment plans - ranging from medical therapy to advanced ablation - aimed at relieving symptoms, decreasing device shocks, and improving quality of life. He welcomes new patients and second opinions.
