Dr. Getasha D Doobay is a board-certified adult neurologist and board-eligible neurointensivist, who cares for critically ill patients with neurologic emergencies. Dr. Doobay specializes in acute pathology of the nervous system including acute strokes and intracranial bleeding, brain aneurysms and other neurovascular disorders, acute inflammation and infection of the central and peripheral nervous system, neurotrauma and traumatic brain/spinal cord injury, post-cardiac arrest neurologic care, seizures, and postoperative neurosurgical care including for brain tumors. Dr. Doobay is originally from central Florida where she obtained her medical degree from the University of Florida, College of Medicine. She then completed neurology and neurocritical care training at Yale New Haven Hospital. Training during the early COVID-pandemic shaped Dr. Doobay's interest in end-of-life and neuropalliative care. She aims to support patients and families navigating disability and death in the early stages of critical neurologic illness. Dr. Doobay is also interested in neurorecovery and long term patient outcomes. Additionally, whether acute or post-acute phase of care, Dr. Doobay is passionate about improving access for underserved populations. She spent the majority of her time prior to residency volunteering in free clinics across central Florida. Presently, Dr. Doobay aspires to help the MUSC Neurosurgical Department launch a tele-neuro ICU program to improve access to neurocritical care expertise in underserved areas and reach more patients, quickly. Furthermore, Dr. Doobay is dedicated to educating and developing neurology resident and fellow competence in neurologic emergencies and the determination of brain death. She has conducted research in how the determination of brain death is being taught across accredited neurology residencies across the U.S. She hopes to continue conducting clinical and educational research in areas that interest her.
