Christof Kaltenmeier, M.D. Transplant Surgery, Pediatric Transplant Surgery, Liver Cancer in Charleston, SC

Dr. Christof Kaltenmeier is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina and is a board-certified general surgeon with subspecialty training in liver, bile duct, and transplant surgery. He completed his surgical training at the University of Pittsburgh and his transplant surgery fellowship at Georgetown University and the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Kaltenmeier cares for adults and children with kidney failure, including patients on dialysis, and for patients with liver failure who may need a transplant. He performs kidney and liver transplants as well as surgery for diseases of the liver and bile ducts. He is particularly interested in transplant oncology - using liver transplantation to treat patients with liver cancer or with cancer that has spread to the liver. His research focuses on understanding the environment in which tumors grow, why they develop, and how that knowledge can be used to prevent or better treat them.
