Christine Woodburn, D.O. Pediatric Hospital Medicine in Charleston, SC

Dr. Christine Woodburn is a neonatologist who specializes in caring for newborns who are born prematurely, are critically ill, or need advanced medical support in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). She has a special interest in providing compassionate, family-centered care for babies with complex medical conditions. Dr. Woodburn believes that clear communication and shared decision-making are essential parts of high-quality neonatal care. She works closely with families to explain diagnoses and treatment options in plain language, helping parents feel informed and supported during an often overwhelming time. Her clinical interests include neonatal palliative care and medical ethics, with a focus on guiding families through difficult decisions with empathy, honesty, and respect for their values. She also has expertise in point-of-care ultrasound, which allows for bedside imaging to help guide diagnosis and treatment while minimizing stress for fragile newborns. In addition, Dr. Woodburn is passionate about neonatal global health and improving care for newborns in resource-limited settings through education and collaboration. Dr. Woodburn earned her medical degree from the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her pediatric residency at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, where she gained broad experience caring for infants and children with a wide range of medical needs. She then completed fellowship training in neonatal-perinatal medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina, where she now serves as a member of the neonatal care team. Dr. Woodburn is proud to care for newborns and families at MUSC and is committed to providing thoughtful, compassionate, and evidence-based care from the very beginning of life.
